the gaze was once here.

I just noticed that people are still linking to this page. It must mean you visit our friend Andrew's blog because I don't know if he has updated his links to us yet. And he is a popular guy so lots of people end up here from Andrew. Even if he does someday update his links, I thought it would be fun to have a memorial to "the gaze", my old blog, at its old spot.

You see, in these days of dynamic pages, website redesigns every year, open source and user-defined content, nothing stays in place anymore. By its very DNA, the internet can be a very immature medium. No one will remember what "retro" design looked like, the way we do with magazines or books, because we can't collect old designs or old pages on the internet. They disappear with a wisp of smoke. (Unless someone is out there taking screenshots of websites, we will not remember it much.) The internet has no memory--this can be good and bad.

So here, once lay a blog called "the gaze". It will be remembered fondly even though it was short-lived. It was the 2nd phase of shookfoil.org, where I erased every essay that had gone on before, and replaced it with a Blogger-run blog about the things I gazed at when I first moved to Europe. May it rest in peace and look forward to the days of its descendants.
